Summary-Axis powers
During World War II, the Axis power's were made up of Germany, Italy, and Japan. The Axis powers fought against the Allied forces containing the United States, Britain, France, and the Soviet Union(USSR). Hitler, the leader of Germany at the time, wanted revenge on the countries that defeated Germany in World War I. Hitler only wanted his country to obtain more power for example gaining Slovakia which the allies gave him. The Axis' Powers leaders each wanted their own country to grow but the others to become weaker which ultimately caused their downfall and the Allied forces victory. Each Leader of each country only cared for their own territory and wanted different things for their country.
Essential Question: How did the world respond to the Axis' power of aggression? At first the world did not respond to the aggression, but later the aggression led to more intense conflicts that the world did not want. The world urged appeasement. The horrors of world war I also created a desire to avoid and end war. The allied powers ignored the axis powers so that the people would think there would be no war. In 1939, leaders of Britain and France asked the Soviet Union to stop Germany/ Hitler's aggression . A nonaggression pact was then signed with all the leaders which guaranteed that the two countries would not attack each other. Joachim Von Ribbentrop who arranged the signing of the Nazi-Soviet pact states, "To see a settlement with Russia was my very own idea which i urged on hitler because i sought to create a counter-weight to the west and because i wanted to ensure Russian neutrality..."(Ribbentrop). The settlement soon came to an end when hitler invaded Poland and world war II began.

Essential Question: What were the keys to victory in the Europe and the Pacific? (During ww2)
In the Pacific the Axis nation, Japan, was at war with the Allied nation, the United States. The US was brought into World War 2 when Japan bombed the naval base, Peal Harbor, in Hawaii crippling the Pacific Fleet. Even thought they were weakened, the US was able to defeat Japan by using the island hopping technique, which is when the US military captured Japanese occupied places. By doing this they pushed back Japan back to the mainland. The US defeated Japan by using 2 atomic bombs on cities that were not already bombed. Knowing the capabilities of the US military, Japan surrendered. In Europe there was D-Day, which was the largest military attack on northern France(Normandy), On D-Day, the allies planned to launch an attack on on the german-held France over the english channel. With the success of this operation, the Allies were able to get a foothold in Eastern Europe and push back the Axis. World War 2 ended when the Allies pushed Axis forces back to Germany and knowing defeat was near.
